Failing BEC with a 74.  I keep checking to see if my some miracle they changed my score to a 75.  But no such luck.

I took this failure HARD.  It took me longer to get back to studying than it normally does.  I was SO CLOSE. But I finally got back on track.  I waited for my score to come out to determine if I was going to re-study for BEC or start studying FAR.

I set up my schedule for watching Roger CPA Review lectures, note taking and MCQ.  I wasn't able to read all his lecture notes last time, or complete my notes from his lectures, so I am making sure that is done this time.

Today is Easter and it is beautiful outside, and I am having problems concentrating, so I decided to write this blog to get myself back on track, re-focus and reminding myself that it WILL be worth it.  That studying now will have a direct correlation with my exam score.  More studying = higher score = done with CPA.  It still SUCKS not being outside with my husband and kid having fun.

So here is my game plan for today until Test Day (Thursday):

  • I have finished watching all the lectures again, and done the end of chapter homework
  • Today - Finish note taking (while listening to the lectures again) Re-read lecture book
  • Monday through Wednesday - MCQ on software (30 questions each time, doing at least 3 sets each day) Reread Notes each day (approx 42 pages front and back)
  • Thurs - Reread notes, do as many MCQ on software as I can sets of 30 questions.

Hopefully this plan will earn me a passing score on the test.  My performance compared to passing scores was only weak in Financial Management, so hopefully I am stronger in that, and still do as well in the other sections.

Wish me luck.

@ Alicia B.  When you do not pass, if you are able to get your score by e-mail, it will have an attache candidate performance report   The information was in there.  I did not realize that information was there until I read about it through someone else's posting.

For some reason I had to request the report this time, They did not send my score via e-mail.  You can e-mail NASBA and request it at

Unfortunately, I know exactly how this feels... To me it was WAY worse (missing it by a point or 2) than missing it by miles...

Not only is it completely devastating and discouraging in a very personal way,.. BUT in my opinion, it is so MUCH easier to evaluate your studying habits, and make necessary changes to your preparation methods on the next attempt, when you fail an exam miserably.

However, when you fail with a super close score (such as a 73 or 74) it becomes an incredibly difficult challenge to identify ANYTHING significant, that you would/should/could have done differently in your preparations... It is maddening!!!

The only thing that keeps me grounded through all of the highs and lows (like 74s!!) while attempting to pass the beastly CPA exam, is knowing (and reassuring myself daily) that it is ok to make mistakes, as long as I take note and learn from each of them. I also try to remind myself that I am normal and that I am absolutely, 100% NOT alone in any of this stuff.. there are 100's of others out there that are also experiencing, OR have gone through, the same things that I am going through now, and if they passed...well, SO can I!

Just keep believing in yourself, be diligent and keep up all your hard work, and NEVER, NEVER give up!!! You've got this girl!!! Chin up and wishing you lots of fellow candidate love!!! -TTP :)

Good luck!  I've never received information where my performance was strong on weak in the exam.  Where do you find that information?  Thank you.
