This is Gina's CPA Exam Journey...

Hello, my name is Gina and on February 28th, 2011 I was fired from my job as an accounting clerk after 8 years. I wont go into details, but lets just say the split was..well refreshing.

Although losing my job was a real blow to my ego, it was probably a blessing in disguise. You see, if I  hadn’t lost my job, I would not have been able to stay home and raise my son for a while, or study and sit for the CPA exam.

Sitting for the exam has been in the back of my mind for quite some time. I am currently obtaining my Masters in Accounting to receive the 150 credit hours needed to sit for the exam. My thought process was,  “I can’t possibly  work full time, do homework and study for the exam”.  Once I was fired, I took a look at my now very open schedule and decided now’s the time.  I calculated the amount of credit hours I had and realized I already had a whopping 170! (lets just say I changed majors…alot).

So with the required credit hours on hand, I filled out the necessary applications, paid the required fees and bought Study Materials.  I am now on my way. Since I am unemployed, I plan to study/sit for two exams each testing window. I’ve decided to study for Financial Accounting and Reporting  – FAR first, since it will take the most tie. Business  Environments and Concepts – BEC will be second.

My study material of choice is Yaeger. I must admit that I spent a huge amount of time researching CPA study materials to make sue I was getting the one that would work best for me.  I really like the lecture examples I saw from Yaeger... I will probably supplement with Gleim software to get extra practice questions along the way.

So, I guess I am all set.  I started this blog to chronicle my ups and downs with the exam. I’m also hoping that by blogging, I can help those who are researching the exam as I did. the blogs I saw were very helpful in determining which study materials to buy, which order to take the exam and what to expect while studying and the exam itself.

I can only hope I can be of some help to someone as those bloggers were to me.
