Introduction and preparing to study for the CPA Exam | Bryan's CPA Exam Journey

Hello everyone!

I'm a 23 year old (relatively) recent graduate from Penn State University, where I got my Bachelors of Science in Accounting.  I honestly didn't know what I wanted to major in when I went to community college.  Ended up taking a good amount of classes, which actually worked out great for me because I got pretty close to 150 credits that way.  After I took my first accounting class at my local community college, I felt that accounting was definitely a subject in which I can master and enjoy as a career.  After that, I transferred to Penn State University and graduated May 2012.  I went back to community college to get my 150 credits during the summer.  Unfortunately, the job hunt hasn't worked out too well. I figure that I should definitely tackle the CPA exam.  Not only will it make me more marketable as a potential employee, but I feel as if though it will give me the tools and knowledge to succeed as someone who wants to climb up the corporate ladder and have a great career in accounting.

As far as the CPA exam is concerned, I just mailed out the last off my application documents yesterday! I found out about this website and see a lot of people that are in the same position as me and are studying for the exam, hoping to become a CPA.  I definitely wish them the best of luck and hopefully I can become a CPA in the near future as well!

Thanks for reading.

Yes, it is recommended to try to knock AUD out b/4 changes.  I know Roger CPA has something available, am going to post it in the Events section too.  Happy Studying!

Thanks for the advice!  I plan to either take AUD or FAR first.. haven't exactly decided yet haha.  I think i'll make a new blog post here soon and definitely ask for advice.  I know the new changes for Auditing are coming here pretty soon, so I might try to get that section done with first.

Hi and welcome Bryan!  Very exciting to have your join from the get-go, which section do you plan to tackle first?  Keep at it on the job hunt, take what you can get on the entry level - I landed a job working for a PA and once he saw I was a hard worker and good at what I did, he gave me more bookkeeping work.  Over time that is what helped me build up my experience which in turn landed me a Big 4 internship which in turn landed me a Big 4 job.  Keep at it ... CPA Exam ... job hunt, etc.  Work hard and good things will happen!! ;-)  Looking forward to your next post!
