It's been a week into my studies for FAR. I decided to start with Government Accounting, it's an area that I haven't touched in a few years and frankly whatever I once knew about it has long since gone. In the last week I've been reminded why I don't work in government accounting; I respect anyone who chooses this as their specialization because I can't even stay awake trying to read through one chapter! Something had to be done, so I made a small investment in 5 hour energy. And although a shot of 5 hour enabled me to not fall asleep while reading from my old text I really wasn't absorbing the information as I needed to.
So I began to research, looking for an audio course that would go beyond basic high level concepts (Ninja Audio) and not put me to sleep while listening (my momma told me if I don't have anything nice to say then I shouldn't say anything at all so I won't mention the name of the audio review demo that put me to sleep while on 5 hour energy)! After HOURS of research I had finally decided on the Lambers FAR Audio review. It was a little more than I wanted to spend so I called their customer service department and they were nice enough to give me a discount. Three days later the CD's arrived, and then began the fun job of getting the chapters I wanted on my iPhone! Yes, a task that would take any 8 year old mere minutes to complete took me 2 days but I finally figured it out (it's all in the media choice - music or audiobook!). Oh how excited I was to put those ear buds in and begin the learning process, God I'm such a nerd! :-)
Although I have only listened to the Government Accounting chapters I feel confident that I made the right choice. You are given PDF's of the chapters which allow you to follow along. The audio is of the live class lectures; the instructor goes through the concepts and then multiple choice questions. So far I find the instructor engaging and he explains the concepts really well; what I found confusing trying to read on my own now makes sense. If anyone were to ask I would definitely recommend their audio as a good CPA review resource.
Happy studying and good luck to all!
