One question many CPA candidates tend to ask concerns what order to take the exams. The old adage was B.A.R.F. and not just because it makes a fun acronym. The idea was that a candidate would start with the “easiest” test first and work their way up. The general belief was that BEC was the easiest then AUD, REG and FAR. The…Continue

Disclaimer: I still have two exams to go and only scored an 83 on the FAR exam. So by no means am I an expert on FAR. However, I can tell you this much - I would rather be studying FAR than Audit or Reg...
FAR is all about understanding the material. And one knows whether one understands the material or not. The trick is to understand what is it that the question is referring…Continue
Hello fellow candidates!
After a long 3 week wait I received my score for FAR today. Having checked the site throughout the day, I finally got my score at 10 min to 5. After I clicked on "score" for the 20th time, I noticed that there were no red words; I gasped and quickly clicked on another tab exclaiming loudly "my score is there!!" My coworkers were probably more excited that they wouldn't have to suffer through my complaining anymore about the scores not being…Continue
Hello fellow candidates! It was so nice to actually go to bed at a relatively normal time last night and actually get more than 5 hours of sleep! Normally I would look at the clock and think "okay, I've got 3 hours until 12:30 (a.m.) should be able to get some good study time in." It was 10:30 and I was like "YES! I'm going to sleep NOW!!). I know this won't last, but I'll enjoy while I can. Then this morning on my way to work, instead of listening to Bill Grubbs from my Lambers audio,…Continue
Wow, I remember another blogger saying how she was actually excited to get her NTS.. and now that I finally have mine (first applied on 2/27), I feel the exact same way. That's definitely a load of stress off my back. I have 2 sections on this NTS (AUD and FAR) and will get BEC and REG a bit later on. Just didn't want to schedule all 4 exams in one NTS and…Continue

It's been a week into my studies for FAR. I decided to start with Government Accounting, it's an area that I haven't touched in a few years and frankly whatever I once knew about it has long since gone. In the last week I've been reminded why I don't work in government accounting; I respect anyone who chooses this as their…Continue

Today I decided to squeeze in some study time during my lunch hour. I began by watching a video on FASB Standards (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLNPUDUWkSg&list=PLAF87E4335AFBFB90). Within a few moments I had to pause it, “what?!.......new codification…. hu? Oh my gosh, have I…Continue
Good evening all, my name is Elliot Jakubowitz and I'm from Miami Florida. After 10 years as an equity trader for several firms i decided to go back to school and earn my accounting degree. After finishing a 4 year in course in less than 2 years i am in the midst of looking for a job and have just began (3 weeks ago) studying for the CPA exam. I have purchased just the 2013 FAR section of Yaeger's CPA review for a little under $600. Now i know its foolish of me to buy each section…Continue
Any tips on best practice study habits to pass these exams while parenting two kids (age 4 and 6) in a city would be most appreciated.
Here's to finally being ready and having life situated enough to just live and study and pass these exams. I have had so many blessings to have the opportunity to be able to focus on achieving this dream. I am motivated to get this studying act into full swing and rock out the FAR ASAP. Step by step I will make progress and the journey will…Continue
It so incredibly sad that I can't pull my sh*t together to pass this exam. Am I scared of something or just lazy?
I have the materials, the support (thanks #twudygroup) and I can make the time. Its like I have more excuses than motivation at this point.
At first I really NEEDED a new job. I recently accepted great position in the field I really wanted to a career in.…Continue
Today I worked really late - in fact until 11pm finishing two grant budgets for work.
I did get a chance to study for about an hour and a half. I will have to catch up tomorrow.
I am still working on the fair value detrmination piece. It has been years since I had to deal with the topic so I have to read all the study text as well as the videos.
Back at it tomorrow!

I didnt sleep last night thinking about the CPA exam. Just starting is a bit overwhelming. I have to break it down to just today.
1. Cleaned off my desk
2. Updated my study software (Cpaexcel)
3. Downloaded some FAR audio study notes
OK, I made the first start....now to get in an hour or so of study time this evening.
I can do this today. Today is what I have to worry about - I will not think about tomorrow just yet.

I am finally home now. I have my FAR study plan in hand, study materials, internet access to Roger CPA Review course and a positive attitude. I am ready to start studying.
A positive attitude is essential. I had a plan to study FAR, but was not able to stick to it due to a family member’s health. I tried to study without my materials, but was not focused on the subject and determined that concentrating on family was…Continue
