Although I got an undergraduate degree in accounting, I tilted towards the I.T. side and really got deep into working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, i.e. SAP. My original plan was to get my Ph.D. (in something, maybe accounting, I.S. or both) and just teach.
However, I started to feel limited by academia last spring. I want to "walk the talk." From there, I decided to explore other opportunities and "start over." Fortunately, through a former… Continue

So happy to join the big family!
I am planning to start my new journey of CPA Exam in 2012. I know it will be tough and frustrated, but I will never give up!
This blog is a reminder and encourangement to me. I hope I will finish my planning step by step and finally pass the 4 cpa exam in 2012.
Right now, I have registered REG on late Feb, but I think I will reschedule it cus I don't think I will finish the whole review of… Continue

My name is Dave. I finished my Bachelor's degree in Accounting two weeks ago, and I plan to start my MS in Accounting in August. In the mean time, I hope to take and complete the CPA exam. This is my story. :)
I have been reading up on CPA exam review courses to see what would suit me best. I will have about 7 months total, so I want to do this right the first time! After getting sticker shock from what my friend paid for Becker, I couldn't help…

I'm a CPA candidate in Texas so I keep up with what the Texas State Board of Accountancy puts on their website. Recently, they featured a survey to get feedback about the effectiveness of ethical requirements (i.e. Ethics course & ethics as part of CPE). While the results in the survey seem to indicate an overall sense of accomplishing the purpose of the ethical requirements, the… Continue

In a previous blog, I spoke about tips we can implement to create a smoother path in our CPA journeys.
In this blog, I will provide a real life example illustrating how I implemented tip #2: Know What You Dont Know and Why You Dont Know It.
We will discuss bad debt. While one of the easier concepts to grasp relatively speaking, for… Continue

So the first holiday is over, how are you feeling? Continue
Are you upset because you used the holiday as an excuse to not study and now you don't have an excuse till saturday (new years eve)? Well you are not alone, I am in the same boat with you.
I know it wasn't the best decision to not study over the last two days however it made my holiday a lot less stressful. Ever since I returned home on Thursday for the holidays, I find myself less stressed and more…

You may think this is about a Tom Cruise film…well it isn’t but as many us have experienced, it can be just as dramatic. The mission of attaining the CPA license seems impossible. This impossibility is what I would like to make possible by July of 2012.
The easy part is setting a goal and the specifics to accomplish the goal but the difficulty lies in actually following through. So how exactly will this goal be met? I have a few tips to share that I… Continue

I have come to see that as a recent graduate, I should have listened a little more in my accounting classes.
Dont get me wrong, I know that I have the ability to learn all this material but this exam and I can't seem to get along. I put forth the effort and time only to not receive the results that I need. Going into 2012 I have set a plan for attack to finish these exams by October. I plan to dedicate more time and have no social life outside of the 8 hours… Continue

How I Passed FAR...
Posted by CPA Exam Club member Debanjana Banerjee
For all you guys who are disappointed with the result, please know that planning is the key for passing this exam. I had taken FAR for 1st time and passed. My approach was to keep studying hard from day 1. I stuck to 1 book (Becker), instead of looking at too many sources and not mastering any. In case of doubt, I would look at Wiley. Also, I glanced… Continue

I tried twice and failed twice with the same score--69. I don't know what's wrong with my AUD. I read the book many times and did all the Becker passmaster MCQ twice and got 80% correct. Every time I got a report telling me that my simulations are weaker and MCQ are stronger. I don't know how to improve my simulation skills. Any good suggestions for me?

Hello Fellow CPA Candidates:
I've read these forums about the many issues we encounter in our journeys in becoming CPAs.
While i do agree there is area for improvement with adminstering the exam, there's something that I have come to believe: the CPA license must be difficult to attain. This doesnt mean it has be impossible to attain but difficult to a certain extent.
The tests taken to acquire the CPA license cannot be too easy because the… Continue

Can I really pass 3 parts of the CPA exam before May 1st 2012? What happens on May 1st, 2012 you may ask...my credit for Audit expires. It took me 4 attempts to pass the audit portion of the CPA exam and I really don't want to retake it.
I remember when I received the score back in late November of 2010. I thought I had plenty of time to get the other 3 parts passed. While I sat for REG and BEC in 2011, I got no passing scores. I came in close on REG and BEC with 70's, but no… Continue
