The CPA Exam community & online study group to help you pass!
I have had several people ask me what I think the most thing was to passing the CPA Exam.
The utmost important thing you can do is practice the Multiple Choice Questions (MC) and the Task Based Simulations (TBS).
I used Roger CPA review and he stressed doing the MC and TBS at least 2 to 3 times. I agree and cannot stress that enough.
When practicing the questions, make sure to read all the answers, even the incorrect ones. When you KNOW the reason each is wrong as…Continue

There are 11 common mistakes CPA exam candidates make that lead to failure, extra exam fees, added stress and anxiety. Retaking a section of the exam is going to cost you hundreds of dollars.
If you can avoid these mistakes, you put yourself ahead of the pack and put yourself in a great position to pass the exam.
The recent podcast that I listened to from another71.com struck me like a ton of bricks. Jeff said: "I wanted to pass but I didn't want to study." This is soooooo true! I would rather spend time with my kids, do the 1001 chores I have around the house or read a good book. Studying for the CPA exam is mundane and BORING!
Hearing him say that made me realize why I have not been able to pass. I went into my last Audit exam (last year) after reading 3 of the 15 books and not practicing…Continue
Getting a failing score on BEC was the day that I (almost) gave up.
After taking ( and failing) my latest exam, I took a break to consider if I still wanted to continue this process. I technically don't need the designation, I want a career in Internal Audit, so a Certified Internal Auditor designation would suffice.
I have not added up the amounts, but I'm pretty sure I have spent well over $1500 on exam fees and…Continue
Ok. So, maybe I was overly optimistic about my abilities and my health. This week has been a bit of a wake up call for me. I gave the okay to try a new approach to my healthcare, but it is not working and my sleep has really taken a toll. So, I am going back to what did work well with the hopes that in the next week or so I will be sleeping better.
Which brings me to my studying...I had hoped to sit for Regulation on August 30, but have decided I will need the extra weeks…Continue
I've always been an excellent student, but I also know that essays are my forte and MCQs are tricky for me only because I'm able to see many sides of the same coin (at least that's how my mother put it when I was younger and frustrated with MCQs).
Now that I'm preparing for standardized, uniform CPA exams, I find my nervousness and anxiety about MCQs getting the best of me to the point that I've tried to do my diligence in studying the subjects and topics inside and out. But, that…Continue
I was sitting in a production meeting the other morning (boring!) and I found myself wanting to write down Analytical Procedures (the topic I had just studied that morning). I had to refrain from writing on my notepad that analytical procedures are required during planning to understand the client entity, not required as a substantive test and required during the overall review for something or other regarding the financial statements... I couldn't bring that up from my short term memory...…Continue
As I’ve delved into studying, I’ve developed a routine that I think many will find beneficial. I start with the audiovisual presentations. These provide me with a quick overview of the topics presented in each study unit. I prefer using the audiovisual presentations first so that when I’m reading the book…Continue

Hello fellow candidates! It was so nice to actually go to bed at a relatively normal time last night and actually get more than 5 hours of sleep! Normally I would look at the clock and think "okay, I've got 3 hours until 12:30 (a.m.) should be able to get some good study time in." It was 10:30 and I was like "YES! I'm going to sleep NOW!!). I know this won't last, but I'll enjoy while I can. Then this morning on my way to work, instead of listening to Bill Grubbs from my Lambers audio,…Continue

In just one short hour I will be leaving to take my 2nd CPA exam, FAR. I'm much more nervous about this one than I was with the first - BEC. I question whether I am prepared enough, I feel like I could use just 1 more week -- but that's a mind set that goes around and around with any exam one takes. Just one more day, one more week - then I will be ready. My plan was to answer questions until the moment I take the exam, but I've scrapped that idea and have decided to take a bit of a…Continue

Came to USA after marriage on dependent visa. Joined at a CPA firm to voluntary the accounting and taxing work. Worked there for 18 months. CPA was not at all in my mind as my career. Was planning to learn software testing, take H1 visa and jump in to job which takes less time and less effort. It was that CPA for whom I worked suggested me that I should go for CPA certification as I am good in accounting. Then I thought about it not yet determined. But my husband determined that I should do…Continue
I thought time flew when I was studying. I was wrong, it is going faster now. It has been 10 days since my last blog, and I thought it was just yesterday.
When I was studying, I followed Roger CPA Review's study planner with a few modifications. I kept track of time and had to schedule time off from studying if I wanted down time. Now that I don't have to study and not keeping a schedule, time seems to be flying by.
While studying, I said "I'll do it after I pass the CPA…Continue
Roger said during his course that all the time spend studying would be worth it, and it was. It is such a relief to finally be done.
I have been so busy; I still haven't looked up to find out about the ethics test or the actual licensing. I still have a few months to go before I am eligible to get my license, and the way time is flying by, I really need to put that on my priority list.
I am going to have to admit that I sort of miss studying and my time watching Roger's…Continue

I am counting down the days to my exam! EEEEKKKKK! I feel like it is so overwhelming to try and complete all of the lectures and practice, practice, practice the MCQs! I plan to study longer hours on the weekends leading up to the exam. Hopefully this time I can pass it!
Wish me luck!
Complete understanding of a subject versus the ability to memorize and regurgitate facts are really interlinked. I've thought of them as different for some time, but now I can see how these two skills are linked and how come standardized exams use them as a way to measure knowledge.
Complete understanding of a subject and seeing how it works hand-on is a skill dominated by the right brain.
Whereas the ability to memorize and regurgitate knowledge uses the left…Continue
I have wanted the designation of CPA for a very long time. I realize that if I had made very different decisions a long time ago, I may have had it and it would have been a lot easier. But life happens and it seems to get in the way... High school and my one lone college semester was a very long time ago. I got married, moved a few times, and had children. I went back to college on a part time basis and slowly began taking a full time load as my youngest began school. I received my…Continue
